“Dragons are coming. #HouseoftheDragon begins production in 2021.” a tweet from the official Game of Thrones account says. #HouseoftheDragon starts production in 2021.
The eagerly-anticipated project will be set 300 years before the events in Game of Thrones took place, based on George R.R. Martin’s 2018 novel Fire and Blood.
It will relate the tale of the House of Targaryen over the course of 10 episodes, the house that created the Mother of Dragons, Daenerys Targaryen, of Couse.
The show will be shot mainly in England. Warner Media CEO Jason Kilar posted a first look at the show earlier today – as part of a blog post outlining a move made by Warner Bros. to release all of its 2021 films at the same time they open in theaters on HBO Max.
Kilar said The main photograph begins in a few months with the next ‘Game of Thrones’ series,’ House of the Dragon.”
“Look out above for dragons! ”
An HBO representative said the show will be filmed at Leavesden Studios in Watford, north of London, according to The Wrap.
As a producer, Miguel Sapochnik has already been confirmed – which indeed bodes very well, as he was the one who gave us ‘War of the B****s’, ‘Hardhome’ and The Long Night’, which were some of the biggest and best episodes of GoT in its eight-season run.
Although the full cast has not yet been confirmed, we do know that as King Viserys Targaryen, the series will star Paddy Considine – his role was announced in October.
HBO said in a statement: “King Viserys Targaryen will be played by Paddy Considine (HBO’s The Third Day and The Outsider).” Viserys was elected to replace the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Grand Council at Harrenhal by the lords of Westeros.
“A warm, kind and decent man, Viserys only wishes to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy, but as we’ve learned from Game of Thrones, good men do not necessarily make for great kings.”
“In a statement, Casey Bloys, President of Programming at HBO, said earlier: “The world of Game of Thrones is so rich in stories.
“We look forward to exploring the origins of House Targaryen and the earlier days of Westeros along with Miguel, Ryan [co-creator Ryan Condal] and George.”
